If your Cloud Storage shows a storage quota warning (for example “storage full”) or uploads stop working, you need to free up space. This guide covers the most effective ways to reduce usage in the Nextcloud-based interface.
1) Check what uses the most space
- In Files, sort by Size to find the largest files.
- Check large folders such as backups, videos, and exported archives.
2) Delete unnecessary files
- Delete files/folders you no longer need.
- Remember: deleting is not final until you empty the trash (see the next step).
3) Empty the trash
Deleted files stay in the trash and still use quota until removed permanently.
- Open Deleted files / Trash (name may vary).
- Delete selected items or choose Empty trash.
4) Clean up old file versions
Cloud Storage can keep file versions, which also use space.
- Open file details and check Versions.
- Remove old versions for large files if you do not need them.
5) Review shared folders
- If someone shared a very large folder with you and you no longer need it, remove it from your account.
- Stop syncing large folders to multiple devices if it is not required.
After cleanup
- Refresh the page and try uploading again.
- If you use desktop sync, allow a few minutes for changes to synchronize.
