Two‑factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of protection to your mailbox by requiring a one‑time code in addition to your password when you sign in to GARMTECH.Email.
This article explains how to enable 2FA and what to do with email applications that connect via IMAP/SMTP.
Enable 2FA in GARMTECH.Email
- Sign in to GARMTECH.Email.
- Open Settings (usually a gear icon).
- Go to Security → Two‑factor authentication (the wording may vary).
- Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, etc.).
- Enter the 6‑digit code to confirm and save changes.
Save recovery codes
After enabling 2FA, you will typically receive recovery/backup codes. Store them in a safe place. They are used if you lose access to your authenticator device.
Using email apps (Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, mobile apps)
Email applications connect using IMAP/SMTP. On GARMTECH:
- IMAP‑SSL: port 993
- SMTP‑SSL (with authentication): port 465
- Server hostname: use your product (plan) server hostname shown in My.GARMTECH for the mailbox/service.
If your email app stops authenticating after you enable 2FA
- First, verify the password is correct (try signing in to GARMTECH.Email).
- Some clients require an app‑specific password when 2FA is enabled. If you see an “App passwords” / “Application passwords” option in GARMTECH.Email security settings, generate a new password for that device and use it in the email app instead of your main password.
- If there is no app‑password option, keep using your regular mailbox password for IMAP/SMTP, and use 2FA for webmail login.
If you lost your authenticator device
- Use a recovery code to sign in, then disable/re‑enable 2FA and connect a new device.
- For best security, also change the mailbox password after recovery.
