E-mails about your domain from the registrar: which are genuine and what to do

Support Portal  »  Knowledgebase  »  Viewing Article

Besides invoices and support replies from GARMTECH, you may receive messages about your domain name from the domain registrar or from the registry of the domain zone. This is normal: ICANN rules and the EU NIS2 directive oblige registrars and registries to contact the domain owner directly in a number of situations. This article explains which e-mails exist, what each one asks you to do, and how to tell a genuine message from a scam.

Who sends these e-mails

Genuine e-mails about domains managed through GARMTECH come from one of these senders:

  • GARMTECH – no-reply@garmtech.com (most of our domains; the e-mail refers to our support site garmtech.support, confirmation links lead to *.registrar.eu, the registrar of record is European Domain Registry OU)
  • GARMTECH – registrar@garmtech.net (part of our domains; the e-mail names the registrar "PDR Ltd. d/b/a PublicDomainRegistry.com", links lead to garmtech.support and my.garmtech.com)
  • the registry of a country zone, for example EURid (no-reply@eurid.eu) for .eu or NIC.LV (dns@nic.lv) for .lv

Which sender you get depends on the zone and on the registrar the domain is placed with; the content and the required action are the same. All these e-mails are sent to the e-mail address specified as the domain owner contact. Subjects from no-reply@garmtech.com start with a small icon (lock, bell, arrows or warning sign). The types of e-mails and what to do with them are listed below.

1. E-mail address verification

When: after a domain is registered, transferred to us, or the owner or the owner's e-mail address is changed. The registrar is obliged to check that the address really works.

Sender and subject: GARMTECH <no-reply@garmtech.com>: "Confirm your domain contact email", and if you have not reacted – "Reminder: confirm your domain contact email". GARMTECH <registrar@garmtech.net>: "Verify your contact information for <your domain>".

What to do: click the confirmation link in the e-mail. If the address is not confirmed by the date stated in the e-mail (usually 15 days), the domain is suspended – the website and e-mail stop working. This is the only type of e-mail where doing nothing leads to suspension. Receiving it again after you already confirmed once is possible (for example after a change of data or if a previous e-mail bounced) – confirm again.

2. Annual registration data reminder (WDRP)

When: once a year, shortly after the domain is renewed. Applies to .com, .net, .org and other international zones.

Sender and subject: GARMTECH <no-reply@garmtech.com>: "Review contact details for <your domain>". GARMTECH <registrar@garmtech.net>: "Reminder to verify the accuracy of Whois data for <your domain>" (may be in the language of your profile). The e-mail lists the registrar, owner, contacts, dates and nameservers of the domain.

What to do: review the listed data. If everything is correct – no action is needed. If something has changed – ask us to update it (requests are accepted only from the registered e-mail address).

3. Expiry notices (ERRP)

When: 30 days and 7 days before the domain expires, and once more after expiry. ICANN requires these e-mails even if your renewal invoice with us is already paid.

Sender and subject: GARMTECH <no-reply@garmtech.com>: "Domain <your domain> renewal is coming up" before expiry, "Domain <your domain> has expired" after expiry. GARMTECH <registrar@garmtech.net> sends equivalent notices.

What to do: check the domain in My.GARMTECH. If the renewal invoice is paid, the e-mail is informational only. If not, pay the invoice in My.GARMTECH. The e-mail itself contains no payment link – never pay for a domain through a link in an e-mail. If the domain has already expired, contact us to check whether it can still be renewed or restored.

4. Transfer confirmation (FOA)

When: a domain is being transferred to us from another registrar, or from us to another registrar.

Sender and subject: GARMTECH <no-reply@garmtech.com>: "Confirm transfer of <your domain>" (incoming to us – contains the official ICANN text and a confirmation link on icann-transfers.registrar.eu) or "Transfer request for <your domain>" (outgoing to another registrar – explains how to reject it). GARMTECH <registrar@garmtech.net> sends equivalent e-mails.

What to do: if you requested the transfer – confirm it before the deadline in the e-mail, otherwise it will not happen. If you did not request any transfer – do not confirm (for an outgoing transfer, reject it as described in the e-mail) and contact us: someone may be trying to move your domain.

5. Change of owner details confirmed

When: after the domain holder's name, company or contact data was changed at your request.

Sender and subject: GARMTECH <no-reply@garmtech.com>: "Domain holder details have been updated". The e-mail shows the old and the new data.

What to do: nothing, if you requested the change. If you did not – contact us immediately.

6. Data verification by the registry (.eu, .lv and other EU zones)

Registries of EU country zones verify owner data themselves under the NIS2 directive, bypassing the registrar.

  • .eu: EURid sends an e-mail from no-reply@eurid.eu with a link to my.eurid.eu. The deadline is 3 to 14 days; if missed, the domain is suspended. Verify on the EURid platform. If the data need correcting, only the registrar can do it – contact us.
  • .lv: NIC.LV (dns@nic.lv) sends all important notifications about the domain to the e-mail address specified at registration and accepts change requests only from that address. Renewal invoices for .lv domains come from GARMTECH, not from NIC.LV.

7. Other notifications

  • "Trademark notice for <your domain>" – the domain you are registering matches a registered trademark. Read the notice; confirm on tmclaims.registrar.eu if you want to proceed, or ignore it to cancel the registration.
  • "Abuse report for <your domain>" – a complaint was filed about your domain (spam, phishing, malware). The e-mail states a deadline; investigate and reply through our support within it.

How to tell a genuine e-mail from a scam

  • A genuine e-mail concerns a specific domain you actually own and is sent to the e-mail address you gave at registration.
  • Links lead to garmtech.com, garmtech.support, registrar.eu or the registry's own domain (eurid.eu, nic.lv). Hover over the link before clicking to see where it goes.
  • A genuine e-mail never asks you to pay for a domain via a link, to enter your My.GARMTECH password, or card details. All payments are made only in My.GARMTECH.
  • Typical scams: "renew your domain urgently", "your domain will be deleted, pay here", offers to register your name in other zones, "SEO registration", "domain listing" invoices. Delete them.
  • If in doubt – do not click. Forward the e-mail to our technical support and we will check it.

Important: ignoring a genuine verification e-mail is as harmful as clicking a fake one. If your domain stopped working after an unanswered verification e-mail, contact us – we will restart the verification.
