Plesk File Manager lets you manage website files directly from the browser — useful when you need a quick fix and do not want to connect via FTP.

This article explains the most important actions in File Manager on GARMTECH hosting: where your files are located, safe editing, permissions, and recovery after accidental deletion.

Where your website files are located

  • Main website root: httpdocs/
  • Common log folder (if visible): logs/
  • Temporary files: tmp/

If you are working with WordPress, the key files are usually:

  • httpdocs/wp-config.php
  • httpdocs/.htaccess
  • httpdocs/wp-content/ (themes, plugins, uploads)

Open File Manager

  1. Log in to Plesk for your hosting service.
  2. Open Files (or File Manager).
  3. Navigate to httpdocs to see your website files.

Edit a file safely

  • Before editing, download a copy (select file → Download).
  • Use the built‑in editor (select file → Edit).
  • Save changes and then test your website in a new incognito/private window.

File and folder permissions (recommended values)

Incorrect permissions can cause 403 or 500 errors.

  • Folders: 755
  • Files: 644
  • Sensitive config files (optional, if supported): 600 (example: wp-config.php)

Avoid setting permissions to 777 — it is insecure and often blocked by server security.

Restore deleted files

Depending on server configuration, you may see a Trash / Recycle Bin feature in File Manager. If it is available:

  1. Open Trash.
  2. Select the file/folder.
  3. Click Restore.

If there is no Trash option or the file is not there, restore from a backup (if you have one) or re-upload the file.

Tips for avoiding downtime

  • Edit one thing at a time and test after each change.
  • Keep a local backup of important files (.htaccess, wp-config.php).
  • If you are unsure about a change, create a backup first.
