Add an additional domain in Plesk (Domain Alias vs Add Domain)

In Plesk you can attach another domain to your GARMTECH hosting in two ways: as a Domain Alias (the same website on another name) or with Add Domain (a separate website). Choosing the correct option avoids SEO issues and makes SSL and email work as expected.

Before you start
- The additional domain must already be registered – Plesk does not register domains.
- You must be able to manage its DNS (nameservers or A records).
Option 1: Domain Alias (same website on another name)
Use Domain Alias (also called a parked domain) when you want the same website to open on both domains (for example example.com and example.net).
- Open Plesk → Websites & Domains.
- Click Add Domain Alias.
- Enter the alias domain name (the additional domain).
- Select the main domain it should point to.
- Choose the alias options (see below) and click OK.
- Web service – keep enabled so the website opens on the alias domain.
- Mail service – enable only if you want email addresses on the alias domain.
- DNS – if the domain uses GARMTECH nameservers, you can synchronize the DNS zone with the main domain.
- Redirect with HTTP 301 – recommended if you want one “primary” domain for SEO: visitors land on the main domain, which avoids duplicate content in search engines.
Option 2: Add Domain (separate website)
Use Add Domain when you want a separate website with its own files and settings.
- Open Plesk → Websites & Domains.
- Click Add Domain.
- Enter the new domain name and choose the document root (Plesk will create a separate folder).
- Click OK.
Note: Availability of “Add Domain” depends on your hosting plan limits. If the button is not available, you can still use subdomains or upgrade the plan in My.GARMTECH.
DNS and nameservers
- If the new domain uses GARMTECH nameservers (
ns1.garmtech.com,ns2.garmtech.com,ns3.garmtech.com), you can manage DNS in Plesk. - If DNS is elsewhere, create the required A/CNAME records at your DNS provider so the domain points to your hosting server.
SSL for the additional domain
Browsers show a security warning if the additional domain is not covered by an SSL certificate. After adding the domain or alias, go to Plesk → SSL/TLS Certificates and either issue a Let’s Encrypt certificate that includes both names, or install a paid certificate that covers both domains.
Email for the additional domain
If you plan to use email on the new domain, make sure you have correct MX records in DNS and create mailboxes in the appropriate service (Plesk mailboxes for hosting, or Business Email if you use that service).
