If your email fails to send or is rejected with an error like:

  • “message size exceeds fixed maximum message size”
  • “message too large”
  • SMTP error 552 (or similar)

…the message (including attachments) exceeded a size limit.

GARMTECH Business Email size limit

On GARMTECH Business Email, the maximum email size is 50 MB.

Important: attachments are encoded (MIME/base64), so the size increases during sending. That means a file that looks like “50 MB” on disk can become larger when sent by email.

What to do

1) Reduce the attachment size

  • Compress files into ZIP.
  • Export documents to PDF.
  • Resize large images.
  • Split archives into smaller parts.

2) Send a download link instead of an attachment (recommended)

  • Upload the file to your Cloud Storage (or another file sharing service).
  • Create a share link (optionally with a password and expiration).
  • Send the link by email.

If you use GARMTECH.Email, you can also use cloud attachments (send a link from cloud storage instead of a heavy attachment).

3) Remember: recipients may have smaller limits

Even if your outgoing email fits within 50 MB, the recipient’s mail system may enforce a lower limit. If the recipient reports a bounce, ask them what the maximum allowed size is (or send a link instead).

Best practice

  • For business communication, keep email attachments relatively small and use file links for large files.
  • Do not send sensitive files via public links unless you protect them with a password and expiration.
