An email alias is an additional address that delivers mail into an existing mailbox. Example: you have info@example.com and want sales@example.com to arrive in the same mailbox.
Alias vs. forwarder vs. mailbox (quick explanation)
- Alias: another address that delivers into the same mailbox (one inbox).
- Forwarder: redirects mail to another mailbox (could be external).
- Separate mailbox: a different inbox with its own password and login.
Create an alias in Plesk
- Log in to Plesk (open your hosting service in My.GARMTECH and click Login to Plesk).
- Go to Mail.
- Click the mailbox you want to receive mail into.
- Open Email Aliases (or Aliases).
- Click Add Email Alias.
- Enter the alias name (for example, sales) and save.
Notes and common questions
- Aliases do not have a separate password (they use the main mailbox).
- You can usually receive to an alias immediately after saving it.
- If you want to send from an alias, most email apps allow adding an additional “From” identity, but the mailbox must be authenticated with the main account credentials.
- If you need a separate user/employee to log in, create a separate mailbox instead of an alias.
Test the alias
- Send a test email to the new alias address.
- Confirm it arrives in the mailbox Inbox.
- Reply and check that the “From” address matches what you expect.
